Josie

I hold a wide range of ‘titles’ in my life, but my favourites are Mama of two fun loving kids and the secondly, a birth and postpartum doula.

I support women and birthing people along with their villages in their pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I support people in person and online antenatally, in birth and forever in postpartum.

I have had the honour of being mentored by doulas and midwives including Karli Smith, Bernadette ‘B’ Lack, Lael Stone and Fiona Hallinan in doula work and additional modalities through formal mentorships and training. Most recently completing the “Art of Debriefing” with B and Lae and Internal Pelvic Release work with Fiona.

After two beautiful births of my own children, I was anew, not changed but rather more myself than I had ever been. I found the work of women, wombs and birth and knew that this world would become my life’s work. Since becoming a doula in 2021, I haven’t looked back.

It has been a truly expansive time, as matrescence inherently is. As a self proclaimed ‘forever student’, I am always learning from others, through life, work and formal training. I am about to embark on my studies to become an End of Life doula, to lovingly hold space from the first breath through to the last.

Having worked with people of all ages, abilities and walks of life, for the entirety of my own life, I found myself falling in beautiful curiosity of the spectrum of the human experience.

I understand that people need to feel safe, supported and prepared, in their own individual and unique way, for the transformation that is motherhood and parenthood.

I know it first-hand and through the honour of working with many families both the joys and challenges that are part of living, conceiving, growing, birthing and raising our children because often we are also feeling, learning, raising and healing ourselves.

It is the latter that speaks to the importance of having space held for us to be listened to, to tell our stories and have our humanness witnessed.

At the heart of my work is knowing that people want and need to be truly seen and heard, as they are and without judgement. The ability to provide safe spaces for that magic to happen is at the centre of all I do.

My offerings include birth preparation, birth mapping, birth debriefing and internal pelvic release work.

Historically speaking I have worked in many industries, from graphic design, swimming and lifesaving to leading a team of over 100 in a local council setting. I have a Bachelor of Communications along with a few other certificates I won’t bore you with the detail of. With my toolbox of unique skills, qualifications and deep passion, all ever growing, I am delighted to be of service.

When I am not working, you’ll find me with my family and friends, having a laugh, making and creating things, cooking delicious food, rearranging my house, learning new hobbies, out in nature, making a mess and cleaning said mess up.
